Summer might be over but not the wildfires

The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) warned on Monday that conditions will be favorable for rural fires to occur across the country over the coming days, particularly in inland regions, while maintaining the state of readiness at Level III.

At a press conference held on Monday at ANEPC headquarters in Carnaxide, Oeiras, Carlos Mata said that the special readiness status of the Integrated System for Protection and Relief Operations will therefore remain at Level III throughout the country, although inland regions are the most vulnerable.

As this is an intermediate/high alert level, Level III calls for additional resources and heightened readiness among emergency response and operational teams for imminent intervention or response to disaster situations, on a scale consisting of four progressive levels.
